The Plus Size Clothing Stereotype
Let's face it, when you think of the words 'plus size dresses', what springs to mind first? For me, I often form a mental picture of a large woman wearing a dress similar to a tent that's covered in a floral pattern. This screams stereotype, I know, however based on my own findings it's really quite difficult to find plus size dresses that fit well and are actually stylish. There is something currently undocumented that happens around sizes 14-16 (also known as the borderline between plus size and "regular") that turns the guidelines of clothing design completely upside down, with the end result being that apparently, we want to wear flowery tents.
Be Proud Of Your Curves
The media is saturated with unhealthy imagery of stick thin models and we are often made to feel bad about carrying any excess weight. Television and magazines portray being plus size as a bad thing which results in larger women trying to hide their bodies. The good news is ladies that you no longer have to do this. There are stylish plus size clothing options available that will allow you to be proud to have curves.
Plus Size Redefined
Plus size dresses are no longer restricted to those who are happy to wear unsightly floral prints. In fact, plus size clothing in general has been almost completely redefined. Plus size dresses are form fitting yet flattering and just as stylish as dresses that have been designed with regular sized women in mind. It is no longer considered taboo to be a woman with curves and there are more options available than you might think. Halter neck dresses, belted tube dresses and dresses with sequins, lace and/or ruffles. Any dress that is available in regular women's sizes now has a plus size option.
The Not So 'Little' Black Dress
Girls, it's time to forget about the 'little' black dress and welcome the 'big' black dress with open arms; a plus size dress that will soon become your trusted comrade on your 'what on earth shall I wear' days or nights. It has been proven that black clothing has a slimming effect on a persons appearance so a black plus size dress is perfect for those who want to be more feminine but are still a little self conscious about wearing bright colors. 'Big' black dresses come in a variety of styles for many different tastes.
